National Relaxation Day

National Relaxation Day

According to our sources¹; Friday is National Relaxation Day, and although our research did not find the creator, or the origin of this day. By far, the most common references to this day on the Internet are from spas. It appear that health spas have adopted Relaxation Day for themselves.

We at Pür Spa certainly want to embrace this National Day.

We offer relaxation in the form of a simple hand massage which precedes a wonderful manicure, to a full  reflexology session.

With the introduction of computers and hand held electronics into our everyday life, our hands are taking an abuse that they havent had before.
It is more important than ever to take time to take care of your hands.

Receiving a hand massage can typically provide quick and relaxing health benefits.
It can improve finger and wrist range as well as improve the circulation and reduction of trigger points (hyper-irritable nodules)

Some of today's hand problems are listed below
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Muscle strain
  • Ligament sprain
  • Ganglion cysts
  • Trigger Finger
  • Neuropathy
  • Lupus onset
  • Carpal Tunnel
  • DeQuervain's Tendonitis

Benefits to Hand Massage

According to
Regular massage of muscles and joints, can lead to a significant reduction in pain for those with arthritis.  In recent research by Tiffany Filed PhD., studies found the effects of massage for arthritis sympothoms led to improvements in pain, stiffness, range of motion, hand grip strenght and overall funtion of the joints.
In 2006 Fields study of 22 adults, mostly women, diagnosed with had or wrist arthristis were given four weekly massages by therapists and were taught to massage their sore joints daily at home.  Just a 15- minute moderate pressure massage a day led to a reduction in pain and anxiety.  Participants also noted increased grip strength.
Researches have found that your hands contain multiple acupressure and reflexology points, which are associated with certain organs and parts of your body.

Benefits to Reflexology

When the reflexes are stimulated the body's natural electrical energy works along the nervous system to clear any blockages, toxin buildup and improve blood flow. With stress removed and circulation enhanced, the body is allowed to return to a state of homeostasis "normal".

Reflexology is a focused pressure technique, directed at the feet or hands. It is based on the premises that there are zones and reflexes on different parts of the body which correspond to and are relative to all parts, glands and organs of the entire body.
